We’ve now reached the last stop (or first if you’re headed south) along the parkway: the Double Arch Bridge that crosses over Birdsong Hollow and Highway 96.
The bridge was completed in 1994 and spans the 1572 feet of Birdsong Hollow. In 1995 it received the Presidential Award for Design Excellence for its innovative design that rises 155 feet above the valley. This was the first bridge built of it’s kind in the United States.

For travelers going north on the parkway it is sort of a fitting end. We’ve spent the last 444 miles driving through history and crossing this bridge gave us a feeling that we were reemerging into modern society.
The view of the bridge from the viewing platform was obscured by the trees, but fortunately we were there before they had returned to full foliage giving us a fairly decent view.

We took in the sights and then headed the last few miles to exit the trace that didn’t end with disappointment as the trees were still budding and blooming and the wildflowers were beginning to rise from the grassy shoulders.
Now it might be sacrilege, but we skipped the world famous stop at the Loveless Café. The parking lot was full and people were standing outside waiting to get in. We were starving and had a long way to drive to get to our next destination.

So we took our photograph of the famous roadside sign thus making the conclusion of the 444 mile journey official. Then we opted to find nearby tacos and margaritas instead of waiting for a seat inside.

We looped one last time under the Natchez Trace Parkway and headed back toward Alabama and our next destination. Although we had finished our four days journey from Natchez Mississippi to Nashville Tennessee our trip was far from over.
Next stop: Russell Cave National Monument
Until then… take care and enjoy the journey
